It's just a special moment': Mansfield football celebrates teachers and community

Heavy rain soaked Alumni Field in Mansfield on Friday night moments before the team’s football game, but Teachers Appreciation Night turned the weather into a minor detail. Players honored educators by walking across the field to recognize teachers who had influenced their lives. Senior PJ Redding chose his history teacher, Melissa Heeden, for a moment described as especially meaningful because she is also a close family friend. The connection stretches back years: Redding’s father and Mansfield head coach Mike Redding previously worked with Heeden in the social studies department, and Mike’s daughters now work with Heeden and her husband at Flannel Cow Creamery. Mansfield beat Natick 28-0 on Oct. 2 and is 4-0 to start the season, traveling to Oliver Ames next Friday.
