Klopp? Guardiola? 'Swift' decision called for as Nagelsmann returns
Julian Nagelsmann’s future as Germany coach is again under intense scrutiny after the team’s early World Cup exit, prompting mounting calls for a swift decision on who should replace him. Germany were eliminated 4-3 on penalties by Paraguay in the round of 32 on Monday, a result viewed as only slightly better than prior group-stage departures in 2018 and 2022. Nagelsmann, who is contracted until 2028, said after the match he would not step down and wanted to continue if permitted. He returned to Munich on Wednesday, traveling with Bayern stars Aleksandar Pavlović and Jamal Musiala. Former Germany midfielder Mats Hummels suggested Pep Guardiola or Jürgen Klopp could fit, while Philipp Lahm urged the DFB to conduct a prompt review. The DFB said it will decide in the coming days after the team’s return.
