Kogakuin and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad launch research on multifunctional energy
Kogakuin University in Japan and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in India have launched a joint research initiative aimed at advancing next-generation multifunctional glass-ceramic materials for energy technologies. The collaboration, led by Prof. Toshinori Okura and Santosh Miryala from Kogakuin and Prof. Kaushal Kumar from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, will study Narpsio-V glass-ceramics, described as sodium-ion superionic conductors. Researchers are targeting how structure controls function in sodium-ion conductive systems, focusing on transitions from glassy precursors to crystalline phases within an amorphous matrix. The work will combine multi-scale experiments—from compositional and phase analysis to microstructural characterization—and link them to electrochemical performance. The broader goal is to support safer, more efficient solid-state sodium-ion batteries by replacing flammable liquid electrolytes.
