Liverpool pay tribute to Diogo Jota, Andre Silva on first death anniversary
Liverpool marked the first death anniversary of former Portugal forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva with a permanent memorial at Anfield. On July 3, 2025, the brothers died in a car crash in northwestern Spain after their Lamborghini left the road and caught fire. One year later, Liverpool posted tributes on X and reiterated support for the families, friends, and supporters affected by the loss. The club said the brothers’ legacy continues to live on, including through their impact on and off the pitch, referencing their “number 20” connection. Liverpool also unveiled the memorial titled “Forever 20” on the eve of the anniversary, installed at 97 Avenue outside Anfield. Reuters reported that thousands gathered previously to leave tributes such as flowers, scarves, banners, and messages. Liverpool’s statement highlighted Diogo Jota’s contributions for club and country.
