Money pours into English football. But can it fix the Wi-Fi?

David Storch arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in June with an urgent, non-glamorous checklist: fix hot water, broken Wi‑Fi, and elevators that weren’t working. His purchase reflects how growing U.S. investment in English football isn’t limited to the Premier League. Across 92 clubs in four divisions, 40 now have some American ownership. Lower leagues also feature U.S.-backed attempts to climb, including Tom Wagner’s Birmingham City, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham (£2 million in 2021), and Arsenal and Leeds with major American connections. Storch bought Wednesday for under £20 million after problems under Dejphon Chansiri.
