Montreal shooter's alleged manifesto calls for far-left communist totalitarianism, 'revolutionary terror'
A shooting in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, reported around 11:30 a.m. ET on Monday, left two people dead after a long-haired gunman opened fire. Authorities said a manifesto allegedly left behind points to far-left communist totalitarianism and calls for “revolutionary terror,” but officials told reporters the incident did not qualify as an act of terrorism. Police footage described Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane being seen crawling behind a white Porsche while another female officer fired from behind a cement planter. A civilian, Michael Mizrahi, was also shown falling; it remains unclear whether he was fatally shot by the gunman or the officer. The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) has launched an investigation. Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher said police received a 911 call about shooting from a specific higher-floor location, but the suspect was at street level. Quebec’s minister of domestic security, Ian Lafrenière, said no other suspect was being sought.
