New Kawhi Leonard 'Secret' Deal Adds More Fire To The NBA's Investigation
Kawhi Leonard has been revealed as a secret minority investor in a U.S. professional soccer club tied to a stadium project in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, a detail that could feed the NBA’s ongoing investigation of his salary-cap conduct with the LA Clippers. A joint investigation by WPRI-TV Target 12, the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast and Hunterbrook Media says Leonard, his uncle Dennis Robertson and former agent Mitch Frankel bought stakes when the stadium plan faced a financial crisis in late 2023. The report also cites two shell companies—KL2 RIFC LLC and KL2 RIFC Real Estate LLC—created days before Leonard’s January 2024 contract extension. The Pawtucket project has received more than $110 million in public funding, with over three years passing and no affordable housing built. ESPN reported the NBA probe could drag into 2027.
