New York Liberty lead the WNBA with 7 players headed to the FIBA World Cup
The New York Liberty have the most players heading to the FIBA World Cup among WNBA teams, with seven set to compete in Germany starting Sept. 4 in Berlin. The roster includes players representing France, Nigeria, China, Germany, Australia, Spain, the Bahamas and the United States. An eighth spot was possible, but Satou Sabally is still recovering from a concussion, so she won’t play for Germany. Liberty star Breanna Stewart described the team as “like the United Nations.” Veterans Rebecca Allen and Marine Johannes’ teammate Pauline Astier highlighted how welcoming teammates have been despite different backgrounds. Han Xu (China), Elizabeth Balogun (Nigeria), Leonie Fiebich (Germany) and Raquel Carrera (Spain) are among those headed to the tournament.
