NFL asks DHS to take down post likening violent tackles to treatment of immigrants
xCruzo Brief
The NFL asked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to remove a social media video that compared former Eagles star Brian Dawkins’ most violent hits to a crackdown on immigrants. In the clip posted Sunday, Dawkins is shown walking out for a pregame while chanting “The time has come,” followed by footage of hard hits from his playing career. DHS paired the post with the caption “Our time has come,” referencing a rumor that a “huge migrant caravan” is approaching the southern U.S. border. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Monday the league requested DHS take down the video. Dawkins told ESPN he did not grant permission for his image to be used. The DHS has faced similar backlash previously, including posts using sports themes.
