NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell agrees on a 4-year contract extension

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2030 league season, ending March 31, 2031. The NFL’s Compensation Committee informed all team owners of the agreement on Sunday, with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft—chair of the committee—describing Goodell as “the helm for the next four years.” Kraft said negotiations involved an independent third-party compensation consultant and outside counsel, and that the deal is heavily performance based, with more than 95% of total compensation tied to performance metrics at the committee’s discretion. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed. Goodell’s extension is his fifth since becoming commissioner in 2006.
