NFL Punishes Former Texans Starting O-Lineman, Chargers Defensive Back

Tytus Howard’s first preseason game with the Cleveland Browns ended with an NFL fine. In the Browns’ 34-10 loss to the Chicago Bears, officials called Howard for tripping Chicago’s Dayo Odeyingbo in the first quarter. The league assessed Howard a $12,537 penalty, the highest fine in Week 1 of the preseason. The NFL defines tripping as prohibited contact that includes runner trips and other specific actions, with limited exceptions. A second offense could raise the fine to $18,507. Separately, Los Angeles Chargers DB Kendall Williamson was fined $5,972 for “unnecessary roughness” involving illegal helmet use in a Texans- Chargers game.
