Ogun ready for State Police, Abiodun declares
Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration is ready to establish a state police force, calling it a key move to strengthen security, safeguard investments, and support the state’s expanding economic activity. He made the declaration at a town hall meeting in Sagamu focused on the 2027 budget and the 2027–2029 Medium Term Expenditure Framework for Remo Division, hosted at the Akarigbo Palace. Abiodun, chair of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum committee on state police, said Ogun has already bolstered its security architecture, including operational vehicles, allowances, equipment, and recruitment into Amotekun and the So-Safe Corps, which total about 6,000 personnel. He also announced an immediate cash transfer programme for vulnerable residents starting in Sagamu to ease rising food and transport costs, citing disruptions to the global oil and gas supply chain tied to the Israel-American-Iran conflict.
