Rescued eagle Jackie battles anemia, inflammation. 'It's too early to predict the outcome'

Rescued eagle Jackie is battling anemia and kidney inflammation after being taken to the Ojai Raptor Center following a weekend rescue on the shores of Big Bear Lake. The nonprofit running the livestream said tests were needed to determine the cause, including possible lead, zinc, or rodenticide exposure. As of Tuesday afternoon, Jackie was reported to be more energetic: she was eating with assistance and on her own, and was standing up and perching. However, the center later emphasized her condition remains critical and that it is still too early to predict the outcome. Her team has begun supportive treatment while waiting for blood work and toxicology results, which could take time. The center suspects she may be from a local nesting pair. Jackie and her mate Shadow were raising two eaglets, Luna and Sandy, before her illness.
