Rough Big West Opener for UCSB Men's Soccer Ends in 1-1 Draw

UCSB’s men’s soccer team started its Big West schedule with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Sacramento State on Wednesday at Harder Stadium. After 23 shots and a 10-5 edge in shots on goal, the Gauchos still stretched their winless streak to three matches and scored just one goal in eight of their last 10. Zac Siebenlist’s penalty in the 33rd minute gave UCSB a 1-0 lead, but a defensive miscue helped Sacramento level at 59 minutes. Coach Tim Vom Steeg cited poor finishing and costly mistakes as UCSB conceded despite controlling play.
