Saints Roster Move Saves $4.12 Million

The New Orleans Saints restructured defensive tackle Davon Godchaux’s contract to free cap space ahead of their season opener on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Spotrac reports the team converted $5.15 million of Godchaux’s salary into a signing bonus, adding a void year and generating $4.12 million in 2026 cap space. The move addresses most of the roughly $6 million the Saints still needed to clear a week earlier. Godchaux’s contract is on an expiring deal carrying $6 million of voidable dead cap next March. A 6-foot-3, 330-pound interior defender, he joined New Orleans in 2025, playing all 17 regular-season games and starting 14.
