Spurs Media Day: Castle, Harper dish on Tex-Mex, trash talk and more

The San Antonio Spurs began planning for the 2026-27 season with Media Day, starting with a regular-season opener on Oct. 20 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Players and coaches met reporters to discuss expectations after last season’s NBA Finals run, including Victor Wembanyama’s development and the team’s title aspirations. Off-court highlights included a new GQ Hype profile featuring rookies Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, where Harper joked about winning Sixth Man of the Year before Castle quickly dismissed the idea. Harper also named Castle as the team’s biggest trash talker, leading to Castle telling reporters Harper was “deflecting.” The pair shared Tex-Mex preferences: Harper said he doesn’t eat tacos and instead orders a steak burrito with queso and rice, while Castle favors simple steak tacos without tomatoes or sour cream. The players also sported multiple sneaker lines and models.
