The Biggest Inspiration I Had' -- Virtua Fighter Crossroads Producer Says HBO's Watchmen Series Helped Influence VF Revival
The Biggest Inspiration I Had' — Virtua Fighter Crossroads Producer Says HBO's Watchmen Series Helped Influence VF Revival connects a fighting-game comeback with television storytelling. Riichiro Yamada, producer of Ryu Ga Gotoku’s Virtua Fighter Crossroads, told GamerBraves that HBO’s Watchmen was his “biggest inspiration” to revive the series after many years. He said the link was less about the plot and more about how an older American comics story returned to the mainstream decades later. Yamada described the game as building on Virtua Fighter’s existing lore while modernizing old settings and narrative structure. He said RGG wants a more story-forward approach with a narrative-driven story mode led by industry veterans, aiming for player immersion rather than relying solely on cutscenes. The producer also confirmed the title takes place 10 to 20 years after Virtua Fighter 5, focusing on a “comeback” of classic characters. Virtua Fighter Crossroads is slated for release in 2027, without a specific date.
