The Sixers own a Clippers pick swap. Here's why they will keep it despite the franchise's historic punishment.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ 2029 Clippers pick swap remains in place even after the NBA’s historic punishment of Los Angeles for circumventing the salary cap. Following a nearly yearlong investigation, the league penalized the Clippers on Wednesday for facilitating payments to All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard through four different companies. Los Angeles denied wrongdoing. The NBA suspended owner Steve Ballmer for a year and fined him $30 million; president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank received a six-month suspension, and business operations president Gillian Zucker was suspended for a year. Leonard was not suspended and was fined $700,000. The league also removed five first-round picks from the Clippers, but sources say the 76ers’ right to the 2029 top-three protected swap is unaffected by those penalties, with the swap still controlled by Philadelphia’s original trade with the Clippers.
