The Star Sydney has been fined AU$10 million for historical financial crime and responsible gaming risk failures, underscoring NSW regulators’ decisive stance on casino oversight. Liquor and Gaming NSW also ordered the venue to set aside AU$5 million to bolster technology surrounding its financial crime risk-management operations. The penalties follow referrals from the NSW Independent Casino Commission of a range of historical breaches, including allowing customers to gamble beyond prescribed time limits between May 2024 and April 2025 and the conversion of casino reward points to cash involving at least 1,898 patrons between December 2018 and November 2023. Additional breaches included nine entries by excluded patrons between February and May 2024 and systemic failures in financial crime risk operations from July 2023 to September 2025.
