Washburn football game called due to heat, game ends in a tie

Heat forced an early end to Washburn’s home opener against the Colorado School of Mines (CSM), with the game ultimately ruled a tie. The Ichabods and Orediggers were knotted at 16 entering overtime, but extreme temperatures led to a postponement before the OT period began and the matchup was later called off. It was Washburn’s first tie since a 7-7 result against Missouri Western in 1977. Logan Madden connected on scoring passes to Nathan Lewis Jr., and the Ichabods led 10-3 at halftime after a second-quarter field goal and a Battle 26-yard strike. Madden finished 20-of-35 for 268 yards; Lewis had six catches for 141 yards and two TDs.
