Why Bills' Dion Dawkins focused on his weight ahead of 2026 NFL season
Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins said his offseason has focused on changing both his weight and his performance heading into the 2026 NFL season. Entering his 10th season and second decade with Buffalo, he reported being listed at 320 pounds and appeared 15 to 20 pounds lighter than he was in January. On X, he posted that he plans to play “the lightest” he has played since his rookie year, framing it as a proactive decision aimed at protecting and performing better at the blind side. Dawkins also tied his training to perception: ESPN’s annual offensive tackle rankings placed him as an “Honorable Mention” rather than within the Top 10, and he reacted to that assessment in comments to NFL Network. Buffalo’s quarterback protection is central to the team’s “reload” approach, and Dawkins has a younger backup in rookie Jude Bowry to help manage workload.
