After disappointing WC outing, India look to turn the tide at historic Lord's Test
India will aim to reverse fortunes after a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign when they begin the first-ever women’s Test at Lord’s against hosts England on Friday. The team left the T20 showpiece early, giving them more time to prepare for the red-ball format at the “Home of Cricket,” 142 years after the first men’s Test at the ground. India trained at Wormsley Cricket Ground for a second match in the longest format this year, following a Test in Australia in March. Head coach Amol Mujumdar said the historic setting excites the squad, with Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Varma expected to open. Priya Punia joins as cover for the injured Pratika Rawal at No. 3 after the 10-wicket loss in Australia. India have won three of their last four meetings with England and remain unbeaten in England Tests (two wins, seven draws). England field five players yet to play a Test, and Tammy Beaumont will retire after this match, following her 208 at Trent Bridge in 2023.
