Android users are under a red alert after security researchers uncovered fake apps that steal data, including banking credentials, through Rokarolla malware. The campaign, first spotted by Zimperium, relies on sideloading from rogue websites that mimic legitimate apps like TikTok or Chrome, prompting users to grant broad permissions. Once installed, Rokarolla can spy on devices, harvest banking logins, and even display a fake lock screen to capture PINs and passwords, targeting over 200 financial, cryptocurrency, and social apps. The advised defense is simple: download only from Google Play Store and ensure Google Play Protect is enabled to mitigate the risk.
