Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says the AI race needs a slowdown amid growing safety risks. In an essay posted early Saturday, Amodei called for “pacing the frontier,” arguing that companies should slow how quickly they improve AI model capabilities. He added that progress may still feel rapid to outsiders, but that the industry should use the extra time “wisely.” Amodei acknowledged that people could lose control of AI and that systems can be misused for “cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and serious economic disruption.” He warned commercial incentives can intensify the dangers of a “race to the bottom.”
