Apple HomeView Ships With Six-Month-Old Software

Apple’s HomeView smart display, launching November 13 in India, is reportedly shipping with software that is about six months old. MacRumors, citing AppleDB, says early units will use HomeView software version 26.5 and prompt buyers to update to version 27.2 during setup. Apple released 27.2 on October 30, just two weeks before the device launch. The report notes the updater details are based on a database rather than an Apple confirmation, and it doesn’t specify whether the update is mandatory or if any features are missing in the older build. HomeView was announced Oct. 13 at $299 in the U.S., with a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, face recognition for up to six users, and a new Siri AI, plus Wi‑Fi-only connectivity and the A18 chip.
