Apple iPhone 18 Pro secrets leaked in Tata Electronics hack: What we know

An iPhone 18 Pro supply-chain leak tied to Tata Electronics underscores how confidential smartphone component data can be exposed after a cyberattack. The breach involved theft of more than 630 gigabytes of information from Tata Electronics, a key Apple supplier in India, followed by publication of documents showing parts details, supplier data, and photos for the iPhone 18 Pro, expected to launch in September. Reports said the ransomware group World Leaks was behind the release. Reuters reported that World Leaks claimed responsibility on June 12, posting more than 200,000 files totaling over 630 gigabytes, and Tata Electronics confirmed the incident publicly. The files reportedly include granular information from chips on the main circuit board to battery components and camera modules, along with which suppliers are competing for contracts. Paolo Pescatore of PP Foresight said the larger risk is exposure of sensitive supplier and component information, potentially aiding rivals, counterfeiters, and attackers. Tata Electronics said it restricted internal access and is conducting a forensic investigation, while Pescatore suggested attackers typically need a foothold, compromised credentials, weak controls, or undetected internal movement.
