Apple Maps gains AI-assisted enhancements in iOS 27, with Flyover imagery now sharper through AI-generated 3D views and selective city rollouts. The update improves 3D detail in scenes such as trees and buildings by combining aerial imagery with artificial intelligence, but is limited to cities including Cupertino, New York, and London for now. Previously, Flyover’s ground-level texture remained boxy in places like Central Park; Apple says processing blends multiple sources to deliver more realistic visuals as users zoom in. The rollout will expand gradually, leaving smaller cities for later phases, with expansion to more cities planned over time.

Apple also introduces Local Lists, a discovery feature that shifts from editor-curated recommendations to data-driven suggestions based on map usage. The tool aims to surface popular eateries and points of interest without relying on a single curator’s tastes. The company notes that Local Lists will accompany the city-wide visual upgrade, and will expand gradually to additional locales. The combined update, presented during WWDC 2026, reflects a broader strategy to blend AI-generated imagery with crowdsourced insights, improving navigation and restaurant discovery for travelers and locals.
