Approximately $400,000 Available for Livestock Loss Prevention
xCruzo Brief
Montana’s Livestock Loss Board (LLB) is approaching the deadline for its 2027 grant cycle, with about $400,000 available for prevention measures. The program supports fencing, carcass composting, guard dogs, range rider programs, and other approaches aimed at reducing losses tied to large predators. Applications are due November 4, and award decisions will be made December 9. Reporting requirements have been streamlined. Ranchers cited electric fencing, carcass removal services, range riders, and fladry as effective tools. LLB data tracked 225 verified eligible livestock losses from predators in 2025 and 152 verified losses in 2026 to date. Chairman John Sampsel encouraged ranchers to apply.
