Attorney General Blanche says DOJ would probe AI-related violations

U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Department of Justice will investigate AI-related violations if people linked to artificial intelligence break the law. Speaking Tuesday at the White House, Blanche told reporters that there are “a lot of criminal laws” that could apply to the AI sector, adding that DOJ’s role is to probe criminal wrongdoing rather than regulate AI itself. He said, “So if anybody associated with AI violates criminal law, we’ll investigate that.” The remarks were made as the U.S. debate continues over how to handle rapidly expanding AI capabilities.
