Bands like The Script will "cease to exist" if we don't regulate AI
Danny O’Donoghue, frontman de The Script, said bands like his could “cease to exist” unless Ireland regulates the use of artificial intelligence in music. Speaking as an industry petition moves forward in the Oireachtas, he claimed that more than 120 of his songs have been scraped by AI companies, enabling “bots” to generate new tracks based on unauthorized work. O’Donoghue visited Leinster House on Tuesday to urge stronger copyright protections and said he is seeking government backing for European action during Ireland’s Council of the European Union Presidency. The motion, tabled by Sinn Féin, calls for fair remuneration, licensing, opt-outs, and legal protections for creators, plus public arts funding that supports human creativity rather than AI-generated content.
