Dem Rep. Goldman: Should Abolish ICE, Still Discussing Who Would Enforce Law if That Happens

Dem Rep. Goldman argues that ICE should be abolished, while also maintaining that border enforcement and immigration-law compliance must continue. On CNN’s “Laura Coates Live” Tuesday, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) said discussions in the House Homeland Security Committee focus on revamping the Department of Homeland Security after 25 years. Asked what would replace ICE’s role in removing people in the U.S. without authorization, he said the committee is working on mechanisms for enforcement. Goldman tied his position to allegations of ICE misconduct, referencing the case of Renee Good and asserting ICE officers fired into her car seat. He said there should be consequences and stressed that ending ICE would not mean ending enforcement.
