Barclays Raises S&P 500 Target To 7,950 - State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (ARCA:SPY)
Barclays raised its year-end S&P 500 target to 7,950 on Wednesday, arguing that stronger earnings and continued artificial intelligence spending could sustain the rally. The bank increased its target from 7,800 and lifted its 2026 earnings-per-share forecast to $365 from $337, according to Reuters. With the S&P 500 trading around 7,625, Barclays’ call implies roughly 4% upside. Barclays’ model assumes 30.8% earnings growth and a 21.8-times earnings multiple, meaning the outcome depends more on profit gains than on investors paying higher valuations. The thesis leans on major AI spenders like Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet, alongside expectations that memory chips account for 50%–55% of semiconductor revenue. Risks flagged include inflation, geopolitical uncertainty, higher-rate concerns, and doubts about how durable AI spending will be as Brent crude topped $100 and Treasury yields hit levels not seen since November 2023.
