Bithumb Users Face Phishing Risks After Reported Data Leak
Bithumb users are being warned about phishing risks after the exchange reported a data leak tied to unauthorized access to an internal workplace tool. Yonhap reported that the intrusion was detected on October 27 inside Bithumb’s in-house mobile groupware system, with the leak disclosed on October 28. Regulators are investigating multiple incidents: Daishin Securities said information for more than 38,000 customers, including names, emails and phone numbers, was leaked, and Mirae Asset Global Investment is also affected. The Financial Supervisory Service has reportedly sent an on-site team to Daishin. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao urged users to reduce shared information, lock accounts, and use unique email aliases and hardware-based passkeys instead of SMS.
