Alibaba unveiled new AI chip technologies Tuesday in Hangzhou, saying its Zhenwu V900 is “the most powerful AI chip in China today.” CEO Eddie Wu stated the chip can deliver three times the performance of Alibaba’s prior Zhenwu M890. The announcement comes days before Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s expected Washington visit and meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump, where AI, trade and tariffs are anticipated to be key topics. U.S. AI leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, have warned that China’s AI progress could threaten the United States and called for slowing development overall. Alibaba also outlined plans to train a new AI model with 5–10 trillion parameters and forecast over 20 gigawatts of AI computing by 2032.
