China's Alibaba unveils new powerful chip and ambitious AI model plans

Alibaba unveiled new AI chip technologies at its flagship conference in Hangzhou, positioning the Zhenwu V900 as what it calls China’s most powerful AI chip. The company says the chip can deliver three times the performance of its prior Zhenwu M890 generation and is designed for AI training and inference in Alibaba data centers and for cloud clients. Alibaba also outlined plans to train a next-generation model at a scale of 5 to 10 trillion parameters, alongside its latest Qwen3.8-Max model with 2.4 trillion parameters. It expects more than 20 gigawatts of AI computing capacity by 2032, amid supply-chain constraints and U.S.-led export restrictions.
