Cloud pics wanted: NASA renews call for people's photos of the sky

NASA extended the deadline for a citizen-science project tied to its PACE satellite, asking the public to help verify what the spacecraft is seeing about clouds and the atmosphere. PACE orbits Earth every 98 minutes, collecting environmental data by measuring how clouds and atmospheric particles absorb and reflect sunlight. Researchers want carefully timed photos of the sky taken between now and the new deadline of Nov. 1, only during daylight hours. After about a week, the project had received 775 “PACE match submissions” worldwide, and NASA is seeking more. NASA’s Dr. Andrew Sayer said each satellite pixel covers about 0.75 miles, so ground observations fill gaps. Participants receive an email comparing their pictures with satellite data.
