CNN Appears To Falls For Joke X Account During Mitch McConnell Segment |
CNN allegedly mistook a joke parody X account for a real quote during a segment about Republican Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell. On “CNN This Morning,” the channel placed the parody post’s quote side by side with similar statements about McConnell’s health made by spokespersons for Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Majority Whip John Barrasso, and commentator Scott Jennings. The parody account attributed a Tuesday message to “Kimble,” claiming he spoke with McConnell for just shy of 45 minutes. CNN host Audie Cornish appeared to read part of the satirical quote on air, with “45 minutes” shown on screen. The article later notes “Kimble” posted on X that he co-sponsors “Poe’s Law,” and includes other parody claims about a car extended warranty. McConnell, formerly Senate majority leader, was hospitalized June 14 after paramedics found him unconscious at home in Washington. CNN did not immediately respond to a comment request.
