Cubs sign ex-Orioles, Giants veteran catcher with .378 OPS

The Chicago Cubs added catching depth for the late stretch of the regular season by signing veteran catcher Austin Wynns to a minor league contract. Wynns, 35, is expected to report to Triple-A Iowa after the move announced Tuesday. Wynns brings experience from parts of eight MLB seasons, including stints this year with the Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves, and Texas Rangers. Behind Carson Kelly and Miguel Amaya, he is valued primarily for defense. Offensively in 34 games this season, Wynns is hitting .146/.195/.183 with one home run and a .378 OPS. A potential call-up would most likely follow an injury.
