Desperate search for San Diego boater and his 12-year-old nephew after disappearing during fishing trip
A massive search-and-rescue operation entered its sixth day for a missing San Diego man and his 12-year-old nephew after they disappeared during a fishing trip off Baja California. Oscar Ulloa, 40, and Adrian Caro Villares left the coast near San Felipe early Saturday for what was planned as a few-hour outing, but they have not been heard from since. The disappearance came as Tropical Storm Rachel battered the peninsula with destructive winds and severe flooding that killed at least eight people in the region. Mexican naval authorities and civil protection teams launched an air-and-sea search in the Upper Gulf of California covering more than 9,900 square nautical miles. Crews reportedly spotted a cooler and life jacket, though officials haven’t confirmed they’re connected. The family also hired a private aircraft to help search from above.
