Exclusive-Friend of suspected FBI data thief says he warned 'crazy' teen not to hack bureau
A friend of suspected FBI data thief Saif al-Din Khader, Adem El Adeb—also known as hacker “Pryx”—told Reuters he tried to stop the teen from hacking the bureau. El Adeb said he exchanged messages with Khader in early September and repeatedly warned him the act would crush him under the weight of the U.S. government, calling him “crazy” and “suicidal.” Reuters reported the breach attributed to the ShinyHunters hacking group has shaken the FBI, and the FBI has said it is operating on the assumption stolen data could involve all employees. Khader was taken into custody in Jordan on Sept. 29 and is cooperating, Reuters was told. Reuters couldn’t reach Khader or his representatives. El Adeb later acknowledged being Pryx and said he quit cybercrime before 18, now building a cybersecurity business called VulOne.
