FPI equity withdrawals cyclical, money may return as AI boom peaks: NSE MD & CEO Ashish Chauhan

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) are withdrawing money from Indian equities as the AI-driven rally lifts markets in the US and parts of Asia such as South Korea and Taiwan, according to NSE Managing Director and CEO Ashish Chauhan. Speaking to journalists after NSE’s listing on the BSE, Chauhan said he expects some of those funds to return to India once the current investment cycle fades. He linked the shift to rising valuations abroad, saying the US market rose from about $25 trillion to roughly $75 trillion, with similar trends in Korea and Taiwan. The remarks follow renewed FPI selling in September after net buying in July and August. NSDL data cited withdrawals of Rs 23,676 crore through September 19.
