From data overload to decision advantage: Operationalizing AI for CJADC2 at the tactical edge - Military Embedded Systems
To make AI usable in mission-critical military settings, software needs capabilities the enterprise cloud didn’t. It must autonomously connect nodes over contested networks, isolate workloads by security domain, and allow different software criticality levels to share hardware safely. The article ties this to Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2), a U.S. Department of Defense effort to move from “islands” of sensors and platforms to a network-centric architecture linking every sensor to every shooter across land, sea, air, space and cyber—including allied connectivity. Development and validation are advanced through the quarterly Global Information Dominance Experiments (GIDE), co-sponsored by the CDAO and Joint Staff, using a continuous experiment-assess-field loop. The Pentagon has reached minimum viable capability and is shifting toward enterprise deployment as of 2026.
