FTSE 100 Live: Precious-metals miners lead gains as mid-caps outperform

The FTSE 100 edged up about 0.1% to around 10,767 in early trading on Thursday, with precious-metals miners leading the gains. Fresnillo rose 1.9% to 3,133p, while gold producer Endeavour Mining climbed 1% to 4,616p after an overnight increase in gold futures. Several blue-chip names also moved higher, including St James’s Place (+1.4%), Associated British Foods, International Consolidated Airlines Group (British Airways owner), JD Sports, Weir Group and SSE. Meanwhile, Admiral fell 1.8%, Smith & Nephew dropped 1.7%, Aviva retreated 1.4% and M&G fell 1.4%. Outside the index, the FTSE 250 gained roughly 0.27% to 24,390, and the AIM All-Share was up 0.59% to 794.65.
