Generac's AI Power Story Is Becoming Bigger Than the Weather

Generac is reframing its business from a cyclical standby-generator bet into a more mission-critical player in AI and data-center power, according to the latest market narrative around the company. The shift is tied to a data-center backlog of $1.6 billion and accelerating commercial momentum: its commercial and industrial segment grew about 29% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026 to $556 million. The company also secured two global supply agreements with major hyperscalers. The first commits nearly $700 million for 2027 deliveries, and the second—finalized in late June—covers similar volume with options extending to 2028. Generac says it cut lead times from industry norms of 70–80 weeks to 40–45 weeks, while raising capex guidance to about 4.5% of sales to expand large megawatt generator capacity at facilities in Sussex, Wisconsin and Belvidere, Illinois.
