Google plans $15 billion Finland AI push, signs nuclear deal
xCruzo Brief
Google says it will invest at least €13 billion (US$15.1 billion) in Finland over the next two years to build AI infrastructure and secure nuclear power under a 22-year agreement. The plan includes three new data centers in northern Finland, where winter temperatures can drop below minus 10°C (14°F). Google says colder Nordic climates and stable power grids help for energy- and water-intensive facilities that must keep servers cool, with freezing air offering an alternative. Under a deal with operator Fortum, Google will buy up to 50% of one nuclear plant’s output. Fortum shares jumped 15.5%. The company’s spending is planned for 2027-2028 and Google estimates it could support about 7,000 jobs annually once operating.
