Google says it fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI

Google says it has patched more security issues in Chrome in the last month than in the previous two years combined, crediting internal AI tools. The company announced Thursday that it fixed 1,072 security bugs across the last two Chrome versions released in June. That total exceeds the 1,036 fixes delivered in the previous 23 releases over the prior two-year span. Google says the increase reflects how large language models are changing cybersecurity economics by making vulnerability discovery more automated and scalable, meaning defenders need faster, machine-assisted processes. It cited the use of Gemini models to preemptively fix weaknesses, keeping pace with attackers. The company released a chart in a white paper showing an exponential jump. Microsoft also reported a record 570 fixes in its “Patch Tuesday,” while Apple’s numbers appeared less steep.
