Hacker Trying to Breach US Federal Election Commission System, Email Shows
xCruzo Brief
A hacker attempting to breach the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) systems prompted the agency to temporarily shut down its web-facing services, according to an email Reuters reviewed. The FEC said that, at that time, its electronic filing system was offline and that its IT staff were working to restore service. The agency declined to provide additional comment. An FEC status message indicated the filing system had been down since around 10 p.m. ET on Monday (0200 GMT Tuesday). Reuters reported the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the FBI had not immediately responded to requests for comment.
