Hackers targeted US private equity, other firms including Blackstone, CME, data shows

Ransom-seeking hackers used phone calls and tailored websites to target dozens of US financial institutions and other businesses in the past month, according to Google and internet intelligence data reviewed by Reuters. Google said the campaign aimed to steal passwords from employees at private equity and financial firms including Blackstone, Bridgewater Associates, Apollo Global Management, Bain Capital, KKR, TPG, CME Group, Clearlake Capital and Moody’s. Google reported the attackers operated under names such as Redact, Pink, Falcon and Helix, and said some victims paid ransoms, though it did not identify targets. Reuters could not confirm successful breaches.
