Hot Rod Designer Chip Foose Made This John Deere Tractor Look Like an Old Race Car. Hot rod designer Chip Foose modified a 1970 John Deere 4020 tractor around 2010, shortly after his TV show Overhaulin’ ended its final season. The project restyled the working farm vehicle to resemble a vintage sprint car, with a reshaped long hood, fat side pipes, and a rear-end “boat tail” profile similar to older race cars. The tractor also received “4020” hand-lettering on the back, echoing track-era aesthetics. Foose later partnered with Deere for the Big Buck Sales Event, when a customized tractor toured the country and was eventually given away. After more than 15 years, the modified 4020 is now in the John Deere Archives facility in East Moline, Illinois. The change was divisive among John Deere fans, though some pointed out the modifications are reversible.
