How Iran's $2 trillion threat puts your AI stocks at risk
Iran’s warning that $2 trillion in “cables, data centers and artificial intelligence facilities” could come within range in the event of war has injected a new kind of risk into AI-linked markets. The message landed as major benchmarks hit new highs while many individual S&P 500 constituents sit well below their peaks: the index (SPX) is near record territory, yet the median stock is down 16% from its high. On Oct. 11, Mohsen Rezaei publicly put a price on the AI boom. Two days later, South Korea’s Kospi and big chip names—including SK Hynix and Samsung—fell sharply, with traders citing both geopolitical fears and investor “casino” remarks by Broadcom CEO Hock Tan. The real-world issue is that “the cloud” is physically vulnerable, with prior drone strikes affecting AWS facilities in the UAE and data restoration problems in Bahrain.
